Heart Foundation Story on A Current Affair

June this year I called ACA because I was so mad with The Heart Foundation and it’s ridiculous tick for healthy foods – not!  It is the biggest farce and it is out of control especially when I saw most breakfast cereals now have the tick. The reporter came the next week and spent 6 hours with me. She agreed with most things I said.  Then in July she wanted some ammunition for the Heart Foundation following on from the interview. September 7th it finally went to air and I have to tell you I was shaking in my boots as I wasn’t sure how ACA would handle the whole issue. After all I was going up against the big boys and sometimes they don’t play fair.

I sat with my daughter that night, she assured me all would be fine and as the interview unfolded I realised that Margaurite the interviewer got it and I was pleased with the outcome. My main focus was on additives more then sugar, but they obviously wanted to focus on the sugar.

Susan Anderson from the Heart Foundation made the statement that 80% of people use the tick for their food choices.  That’s scary because if 80% of the Australian people are doing this and the tick is working then shouldn’t 80% of people have no heart disease?  Yet this is not true, heart disease and stroke are the biggest killer in Australia, in fact there are cases of 5 year olds having strokes.

What was very disturbing is that Susan Anderson said that even though they knew that a diet high in sugar causes major lifestyle diseases they had no intention on changing the criteria of the tick!

Please make a comment on the program as we need to get the message across that the heart foundation needs to change for the health of Australians.
